THE Maffra Eagles women extended their winning streak in the Country Basketball League to seven games.
On Saturday night, the third-placed Eagles came from seven points down at three-quarter-time to defeat Southern Peninsula 78-75.
Trailing by three points at quarter-time, the home side came back to level the scores by the main break.
The Lady Sharks scored 25 points to 18 in the third quarter to head into the final term leading 65-58.
The Eagles chipped away at the deficit before Jaz Allman scored a three-pointer and a two-pointer to level the scores. Sent to the free throw line, Allman scored a point to give the home side the lead with five minutes remaining.
The Maffra lead was three points, but a Jaz Shelley score from outside the arch levelled the scores again with just over the minute to play.
What followed was a tense 60 seconds, with an Allman three-pointer the only score, That proved to be the difference between the sides on the scoreboard at full-time.
Allman top-scored for the Eagles with 19 points, while Maddi Bates scored 18. For the visitors, Shelley scored 24 points and Eliza West 18.
THE Maffra men had the week off.
BOTH Maffra teams will be in action this Sunday, when they host Churchill.
The women will tip-off at noon, the men at 2pm.
These matches will be the Eagles’ last before the Christmas-New Year break.
