RELATED: 2016 EGFNL fixture

BOISDALE-Briagolong and Stratford will meet in round one of the 2016 East Gippsland Football-Netball League season.

The season’s first “Battle of the Avon” will be held at Boisdale on Saturday, April 2.

This match will mark the beginning of the senior coaching tenures of John Tyquin (Boisdale-Briagolong) and Rowan Marsden (Stratford).

In the other round one matches on April 2, Lindenow will welcome Orbost-Snowy Rovers, Wy Yung will host Lucknow, and Paynesville will head to Lakes Entrance for a night game.

Matches will also be played under lights in rounds two and three at Lucknow, Lakes Entrance and Paynesville. None will involve Stratford or Boisdale-Briagolong.

The Swans and Bombers will meet again on May 28 at Stratford and July 23 at Boisdale, the latter during the first half of a split round.

The Queen’s Birthday weekend in June has been slated to be a general bye.

The semi-finals will be held on August 27 and 28, followed by the preliminary final on September 3.

The EGFNL grand final will be held on Saturday, September 10, the same day at the North Gippsland league’s.

The Gippsland League grand final will be held on September 24.

DRAFT recommendations of the AFL Gippsland senior leagues review are scheduled to be announced on Friday morning.

It is understood the changes will mainly affect the Ellinbank and Alberton league, with the reintroduction of a West Gippsland league set to be the centrepiece of the recommendations.

The review committee’s draft recommendations will be presented to the AFL Gippsland region commission before another round of public consultation. The final recommendations will then be presented to the commission for a final decision.

Changes are unlikely to be suggested for the Gippsland, North Gippsland and Mid Gippsland leagues.

Any changes to leagues and clubs are expected to take affect for the 2017 season.

The East Gippsland Football-Netball League is not under the direct management of AFL Gippsland, so is unlikely to be affected by the review.
