Unbeaten teams to do battle

UNDEFEATED teams Sale and Gippsland will face-off this Friday night in the Regional Victorian Netball League.

The teams will be vying for top spot in the 19 and under competition when they meet at Churchill from 7.15pm.

Sale will enter the contest fresh from the bye last round.

Last week, Gippsland defeated a young Pakenham side 61-38. Gippsland came out of the blocks fast for the night doubling Pakenham’s score to lead 16-8 at quarter-time before pushing out the margin.

With both sides battling for their first win, Mid Gippsland defeated North Gippsland 41-37.

Both teams came out hard in the first quarter with North Gippsland leading 11-9 at the break before Mid Gippsland worked hard to level the scores at 21-21 by half-time.

Mid Gippsland made a change at goal attack, putting Georgia Hutchinson in to create the much-needed speed around the goal ring. This gave Mid Gippsland good opportunities to gain the lead in the second half.

IN the open division, Gippsland defeated Mid Gippsland 55-41.

The last time these two met it ended in a 49-49 draw following a second half comeback by Gippsland.

This time, Mid Gippsland was missing tall goal shooter Taylin Gourley, who was playing with Melbourne University in the Victorian Netball League. With Stacey O’Brien for Gippsland back from injury, Gippsland look strong.

At the end of the first break, Gippsland led by two goals and was looking to extend the lead and increase the pressure. Mid Gippsland seemed to fold under this pressure, finishing the half eight goals down.

In the third term, Gippsland pushed away to lead 43-27 at the final break. Mid Gippsland looked to save face in the final quarter, working hard to chip away at the deficit.

Ramayer Gourlery scored 43 goals from 54 attempts for Gippsland.

East Gippsland easily claimed victory against Morwell Indoor winning 64-45.
