Combine too good for Swans

SALE United was out-classed by Newborough-Yallourn United 6-2 in the Latrobe Valley Soccer League on Sunday.

The home side led 2-1 at half-time before extending its advantage in the second half, scoring four goals to one.

Brandon Scott and Jayden Mathison each scored a brace for the Combine, with one goal each from Marc McHallam and Mark Fairbrother. Nathi Khamchom and Nick Buckhoreelall scored for the Swans.

The Combine moved back into fourth place on the table, while the Swans remain in ninth having lost four of their past five league games.

LADDER leader Moe United defeated Monash 4-0 to remain five points clear of the pack.

Three first half goals put the game to bed, as Ty Georgiou’s hat-trick was supplemented by a Joel Baldwin goal.

FALCONS found a way through a resolute Trafalgar Victory defence to win 2-0.

A dour affair ensued with neither team looking overly threatening early, until the Morwell side exerted some forward pressure.

Eventually Falcons’ class prevailed late in the first half, with a cross from Jordan Kennedy finished off by brother Jesse to give the visitor the lead.

Falcons doubled its lead with a second half goal from substitute DJ Matar.

TRARALGON City kept its third clean sheet of the season to destroy Fortuna 4-0, Churchill United obliterated Tyers 9-1, and Traralgon Olympians defeated Pegasus 3-0. East Gippsland United had the bye.

SALE United will return home this Sunday for a winnable match against seventh-placed Traralgon Olympians, which is four points ahead of the Swans.

Sixth-placed Traralgon City will host Monash, which is fifth, Moe should claim victory at home against East Gippsland, NYU will welcome Fortuna, Churchill will head to Trafalgar, while Tyers and Pegasus have the chance to record a rare win.

Falcons will have the bye.
