A HAT-trick from Matt Shearing gave Moe United its first win of the Latrobe Valley Soccer League senior season, defeating Sale United 5-0 on Sunday.
Shearing’s goals came at 26 minutes then a quick double at 53 and 55 minutes.
Harley Robinson opened the scoring for Moe at seven minutes, and the visitors had another at 12 minutes from Andre Antonopoulos to leave Sale chasing shadows.
FALCONS suffered its second successive loss, going down to undefeated Newborough-Yallourn United 1-0 in the rematch of last year’s grand final.
After Mark Fairbrother scored in the 55th minute, NYU held onto the lead hard as Falcons attacked strongly, only to be knocked back by a tight defence.
The Combine was also frustrated at not scoring more goals, but hung on to record a good win to gain some revenge from its grand final loss.
MONASH defeated Trafalgar Victory 3-0, but it took well into the second half for the Wolves to shake off a determined home side.
After a score-less first half, it was left to Jace Paulett to open Monash’s score at 78 minutes.
Jesse Davis followed up only seven minutes later with a clean shot, before Chris Oulton put the game to bed with two minutes to play.
ON Anzac Day, Fortuna defeated Churchill United 4-0.
It took 43 minutes before Fortuna scored with a good goal from Brandon Scott.
Churchill was not without its moments as the Rams tried to get on the board, but a tight and steady Lions defence stopped them.
After the break Fortuna, got its act together, as the Lions scored again at 67 minutes from Matt Coward.
Churchill tried but was dispossessed many times, as Fortuna fought hard to control the match.
Two more goals by Fortuna from Scott for a brace at 70 minutes and Tak Gwara at 80 minutes buried the Rams.
