Falcons frustrate Swans

IT was a goal keepers’ nightmare in the Latrobe Valley Soccer League on Sunday, as 30 goals were scored across the five matches.

Only two games saw the respective keepers Damien Gilbert (NYU) and Liam Aqualina (Traralgon City) keep a clean sheet.

A FIVE goal haul to Jamie Pistrin enabled Falcons to secure a big 7-2 victory over Sale – with assistance from his teammates, Pistrin showed class and ably beat the keeper repeatedly.

After two successive losses, Falcons came back with a vengeance to beat Sale for the seventh successive time.

For the most part, Falcons led a good contest but Sale were competitive, and at half time had a 2-0 margin.

Sale produced some magic just after the break as Jacob Richardson scored a boomer to give the Swans some hope.

Fortuna picked up a cog and immediately answered Sale’s goal to give them a 3-1 advantage.

The floodgates opened for the Falcons as they added a further two goals before Sale got one back with Richardson’s second.

Falcons put on another two goals from Nick D’Allesandro and Kevin Carcella in the final two minutes to take the match 7-2.

TRARALGON City and Fortuna continue to slug it out for top position on the women’s ladder, with Traralgon City sitting on top – its 5-2 win over Monash securing their position.

Fortuna, the former leader, went down to Trafalgar 2-1 and NYU struggled to beat a fired up Olympians 1-0.

Moe got in over Churchill 2-0 and Falcons had a surprise win over Sale 3-1.
