SALE Croquet Club’s Peter Goldstraw won a hard-fought Gippsland Croquet Association golf-croquet championship, hosted in Sale on Saturday, March 11.

He was one of three players in Section One who finished with four wins, but his six net hoop advantage was one better than Judy Wembridge and Dennis Saxton, both from Bairnsdale, who also had four wins.

Section Two’s winner was Penny Morrison-McGill of Morwell, who went through the competition in her section undefeated.

Section Three’s winner was Sue Baker of Wonthaggi who recorded three wins, one ahead of a trio of Sale players: Wilma Freeman, Elaine Giesbers and Colin Coomber.

The next major croquet events in Sale will be the annual association tournament on May 22 and 23, followed by the golf-croquet doubles on June 3 and 4.
