Pedestrian crossing is not safe

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

I OBJECTED to Wellington Shire Council that the Maffra pedestrian crossing would create problems regarding safety before and during its construction back in 2010.

Now I use this crossing regularly every week, with a mobility scooter fitted with an Australian flag on a pole and a safety shirt or coat and still get ignored by drivers, both locals and visitors.

My suggestions are to reduce speed limits to 50 in the centre lanes and 40 on service lanes, reinstate zig-zag lines on approaches, replace upright signs to read ‘Pedestrian Crossing’, fully remove hedges and have speed limits painted onto road surfaces.
