LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
MS Allitt’s concerns about the Hazelwood Health Study in her letter to the editor headed ‘Wondering at mine fore study’ raises important issues for the study.
I am delighted that Sale has been included as a less affected community for comparison.
As a member of the clinical reference committee, I also questioned the suitability of Sale, but have been convinced that it is a scientifically appropriate choice.
The really important thing is that Sale residents will benefit.
Detailed knowledge of our health status will give us a strong evidence of the future health needs of this community.
If ever we need to call upon government for upgraded services at Central Gippsland Health Service, the evidence for the need will be there, for all to see.
This is a rare opportunity for our community, and I would urge all Sale residents to sign up.
There is much that future health workers and governments can learn from this, but they need our help to make it worthwhile.
