Resident opposes CarbonNet project

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

THE so-called CarbonNet Project being considered has quietly slipped into town, giving little notice (for obvious reasons) and announcing a disruptive 17-day seismic survey off Golden Beach in the middle of summer (if you don’t mind), when people have been told to stay out of the water.

It will supposedly pipe carbon waste from power stations in the Latrobe Valley (we’re already taking its waste) and hide it under the sea floor, hoping it won’t escape.

Outdated by about 50 years I think.

The millions of dollars have been quoted to establish the project and for ongoing maintenance costs, which would certainly be better spent building a better power station, or on renewable projects.

Selling this project to the community will be like selling ice to Eskimos.
