LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
IT’S absurd that February and March are considered ‘off peak season’ for swimming.
It is the hours of the day the pool is closed to the public which is my concern.
Not everybody wants to or is able to get up at 6am to do laps.
Parents with young children or older patrons may want to use the pool on a hot day in February or March between the hours of 8am and 3.30pm.
This is generally the hottest part of the day, and the nicest time to cool down with a swim before school gets out.
Opening the pool between these hours would also provide employment for young people in our community.
We have these lovely swimming pools, but they are closed to the locals and visitors when we need them most.
We could use the Macalister River or other natural pools in our area, but these are not our safest or most convenient options on a hot day and do not have lifeguards.
