Heart Morass absurdity

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

THERE is a heartbreaking absurdity in the article ‘Hunters warned of changes to duck season opening’.

Hunters are reminded of the new regulations for the 2018 season, including the requirement to harvest all breast meat so the bird is not wasted.

Yet for those shooting at Heart Morass near Sale, EPA advice is not to eat the breast meat due to contamination of polyfluoroalkyl and perfluorotoalkyl substances from the nearby Sale air base.

If duck shooting is really about harvesting game meat as the public are constantly told, it would be anticipated that the Heart Morass will be very quiet given the toxicity.

Yet if there is shooting for contaminated breast meat, it would seem clear evidence that duck shooting is about the ‘thrill kill’ and waterbird lives will be lost for nothing.
