Drought, rates and bushfire risk

B. Richardson, Ashleigh House

AS a previous resident of Briagolong nearly 40 years, I would like to protest about rate increases for farmers during the drought.

My son has had to sell his breeding stock, as our creek and dams are dry.

We are also being eaten out by kangaroos coming out of the bush.

We bought the property just before the terrible 1965 drought, and bushfires went through the area.

We have done all we can to prepare our property for fires, have cleared around, removed items, and so on.

But with the money being allocated in the past few weeks to help people, more should be done to clean up the local roadsides.

Perhaps someone from council could come and inspect them, as there are so many new people living in the bush.
