Lamenting loss of Maffra street arbour

I WRITE to express my dismay at the demolition of the arbour in Johnson St, Maffra.

Although fully supporting the new streetscape plans for Maffra’s beautiful main street, I find it hard to understand the difficulty of crossing the road after the arbour was built.

Road crossing rules have not changes since I was at school – look right, look left, look right again then cross – and I assume these guidelines are prevalent in many countries whose inhabitants are welcome in our town.

It is hardly the fault of the arbour that people have difficulty doing this, and I feel Maffra’s main street has lost an attractive asset.
