There’s a lack of controlled burning

Phil Monkhouse, Valencia Creek

THE Labor government’s failing to heed the recommendations of the 2009 fires to burn five per cent of bush has resulted in the lives of firefighters and residents being put at risk.

Perhaps if someone from government would come and have a look and see how much fuel is in the bush, they might do the five per cent burning.

If they believe all the science for global warming, then they should also believe the bushfire people, like David Packham, and act on their recommendations.

With the warming taking place, we should be burning 10 per cent, not five per cent of the bush.

It is about time country areas governed themselves, not being told what and how to do things by people from the city, who have no idea what happens in the country.
